Re: EMD Scholarships for graduating seniors
Greetings from your District NYI! We trust all is well with you as you work in what we believe to the most
challenging and rewarding ministry on earth – YOUTH MINISTRY! We believe that God is working in the
lives of our young people all across the Eastern Michigan District. We hope that this coming year brings
you great joy as you work with young people, serving the Lord.
One of the greatest rewards for us as leaders is to walk with young men and women through their middle
school and high school years, to watch them make decisions that will affect them their entire lifetime.
Jeremiah reminds us that our Lord has a plan for our students and for us! One of the more difficult
decisions for our students pertains to life after high school. Hopefully, as your students consider all of
their options, they will consider a Christian education at one of our Nazarene colleges or universities. In
keeping with our district’s tradition of both honoring and helping exemplary students, we will again be
offering scholarships for qualifying students attending a Nazarene college or university this coming fall.
Following is a list of details:
The District NYI will award up to five scholarships to graduating seniors attending a Nazarene college
or university in the fall, in the amount of $500 ($250 per semester). A great thing about this is that Olivet
Nazarene University will match this scholarship for its students, making it worth $1,000.
One of the five awards is predetermined by District Quizzing competition. If the top district quizzer is
not a senior, their scholarship will accumulate, and eventually dispersed upon graduation from high
school.
The scholarships are awarded based on the information provided on the enclosed application. A
scholarship committee votes for honorees, using a scoring system for each category.
All applications must be post-marked no later than April 7th, 2008 and include their senior
picture.
The honorees will be notified via email and will be announced on the district’s webpage on June 2nd,
2008.
YOU are vital to this process and play a key role in encouraging your youth that may be eligible. There is
a very good chance that your teen(s) may receive this award. Please remind them that this is a merit
scholarship, and financial need will not be a factor. Please help by doing the following:
Copy and distribute the application to all graduating seniors planning OR considering a Nazarene
College or University.
God Bless!
