Newstart Churches Update from Rev. Michael Morris
The concept of NewStart sponsorship is becoming a strong reality as more and more churches are getting in on the excitement of helping create new communities of faith all across the district. Over the summer months there have been five new churches initiated through the sponsorship model. It has been interesting to note that nearly every church that has committed to sponsor a new church has recorded growth. One of the greatest blessings has been the involvement of the new churches in the sponsorship process. Churches that have been started over the last 10 years are now reproducing their ministries in the lives of new churches. Most recently the
Flushing Church has partnered with
Richfield to start the
Clio Community Church; the
Crossroads Church, along with
Williams Lake and
Lake Louise, have sponsored the
Northpointe Church; the
Fenton Church has begun the process of looking at the surrounding communities to initiate a new church. The most exciting aspect of the new churches that have begun is the growing number of lives that are being changed through discovering Christ. This explains why Paul said, "It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not know, so that I would not be building on someone else's foundation." (Romans 15:20 NIV)

Thumb Zone Pastors Meet to Discuss Church Planting

(Photo Left: Thumb Zone pastors meet to discuss strategies and possible locations for new churches.) Mission Zone Director,
Rev. Paul McNett, led the zone in recapping the results of district assembly and looking at methods that may be employed to sponsor healthy new churches. It appears that a cluster of churches may target one community at a time and "pool" resources to establish he new community of faith. If you are interested in finding out how you, your church, or your zone could be involved in the life of a new church please call Rev. Michael Morris at 810-654-2553 or e-mail at
MPMorris@juno.com.
