![]() E-Tidings VOL. 1 , Issue 1, September 1, 2001 Welcome to the first issue of the new Eastern Michigan District publication called E-TIDINGS. For those of us who have been around for a number of years, the name TIDINGS is very familiar.. For the 52 years that Eastern Michigan District has been in existence, we have become used to a monthly paper delivered to our churches and placed on a table in the foyer. It contained news about churches, pastors, missions, Sunday School, and our young peoples organization. The Tidings also gave us an update on budget payments, Sunday School attendance, and moving pastors. It had become increasingly apparent that this publication was becoming less effective in getting important information out every year. Therefore we proudly announce the creation of a new district Web site www.emdnaz.org and a monthly electronic newsletter. Because you are receiving this E-TIDINGS, you have already been enrolled and will receive it each month. If you do not want to receive this in the future, please send me a note at emdds@emdnaz.org and ask to be unsubscribed. If you know others that would like to receive this publication, please either visit our Web Site at www.emdnaz.org and go to the subscribe area. Individuals can also send their request to emdds@emdnaz.org. I hope you enjoy this new format. Please feel free to send any feedback and/or suggestions to me. We want to continually be improving both the E-TIDINGS and the Web Site. Filion Church Celebrates 50th Anniversary Sunday August 19 the Filion Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of the church. Current pastor, Rev. Don Stroud welcomed former members and pastors to this exciting day. The singing group, The Gospelmen, brought a wonderful concert and District Superintendent, Dr. Stephen Anthony, brought the morning message. A record crowd of 79 crowded the church for the anniversary service.
The newly renovated church building and fellowship hall were beautifully decorated for the occasion. Rev. Stroud and the Filion congregation have been busy recarpeting, painting, and decorating. The district NEHEMIAH PROJECT under the leadership of Rev. Clarence Moorhouse helped in the renovation.
Filion Church is the northernmost church on the Eastern Michigan District. It is about 5 miles north of Bad Axe. Rev. Stroud has pastored the church since October of 1994.
News from the Dundee Church of the Nazarene "It has been such a busy, but blessed summer for us in Cabela's country. We just recently got our team back safely from Uganda. Yesterday, they shared the details of their trip, but even more importantly they shared the vision that God had given them more effectively reach out to our community. I am not sure who got the most benefit from this trip, our team or the Ugandan nationals. Some great friendships were made, with one of our new friends going out a setting up a P.O. box just to be able to get mail. His name is Seemul and he is 18. He has been left with the responsibility of caring for his family, since his father abandoned them. He has so many hopes and dreams and fortunately, because of the ministry of Dan and Melody Anderson has the awareness that Jesus is the ultimate realization of his hope. The love and hospitality of the Ugandans is the greatest life lesson we walked away with. Again God was reminding us that like Paul we should be delighted not only to share the gospel, but our very lives with those to whom we minister..." Rochester Church Building New Facility The Rochester Church, under the leadership of Rev. Larry Crum, is eagerly anticipating moving into their entirely new facility by Thanksgiving of this
year. The thought of them having a new facility was the farthest thing from the church's mind when Rev. Crum arrived in 1994. But attendance began to grow, people began to seek God, and the old church building was sold to a nursing home next door to the church. All of these things led them to the 4.5 acre site just a quarter mile west of their former facility. The nursing home has allowed Rochester Church to continue to use the old building for almost two years now.
The new church will include a sanctuary for 350- 400 people, a gymnasium,
a children's church area, a kitchen, many classrooms and offices. "This truly is a miracle" Dr. Stephen Anthony observed. "When I met with the church board in 94, many of the board members wanted to close the doors. Now look what's happening! It has to be of God." Anthony stated.
Construction is being handled by GATOR Construction with financing through Flagstar Bank.
