Thanksgiving is a wonderful time around the Anthony house. It begins weeks before the actual holiday with the purchase of the biggest turkey we can find. Early Thanksgiving morning Marilyn and I arise to begin the stuffing preparation and to get the bird cooking so it will be done to "perfection" when the guests arrive. The parades, the Detroit Lions losing another heart breaker and family all go into the mix of making a perfect Thanksgiving.
Not many miles from where we live are people that are not as fortunate as we have been. They are mired in poverty and hopelessness. In their world they see very little for which to give thanks. Yet in the midst of their community a group of people led by Rev. Bill and Barb Burdine bring Jesus to them in the form of a hot meal, a warm coat, a bag of groceries, or formula for their baby. The Eastside Mission is in their 11th year of ministry to the needy of Flint. The Burdine's and many volunteers continue to pour out their lives so that others might see Jesus.
Another tradition we have at the Anthony house is to write a check to the Eastside Mission. It is our way of saying Thanks to God for the many blessings we enjoy. Why don't you join us for Thanksgiving by giving generously to this worthwhile ministry.
Happy Thanksgiving
Stephen T. Anthony

Here is the Latest Information on the work completed at New Orleans First Church during the week of October 20-23. The team consisted of nine people. We were housed at Kenner First Church by the kind people there. The accommodations were great and we are grateful for their hospitality.
The exterior electrical panel has been completed and the interior electrical panel is ready for inspection. We are waiting for CLECO or one of its contractors to bring power to the building. During my last trip down to NOFC, the electrical contracting company working in the area thought that the power could be restored by the middle of October or the first of November. Please pray that they can power the building so that we will not be delayed.
The interior first floor of NOFC has been stripped down to the concrete walls. All of the interior fixtures have been removed and the debris has been moved curbside. Saturday a safety inspector working in the area assured us that the debris would be removed this week. The floors and walls on the first floor have been bleached and are dry and free from mold.
The large room on the second floor of the building has been stripped of all of the fixtures, furniture and debris. The stench had filtered into all of the contents of that large room making it necessary to remove all of the contents.
The exterior property around the church has been raked and all of the debris around the building has been collected and moved curbside. The area between the parsonage and NOFC has been raked and cleaned. The front yard of the parsonage has been raked and cleaned as well.
Once the debris has been removed from the curb, the property should begin to take shape and the appearance should begin to change dramatically.
The Next Step...Plans are now underway to bring the next team to NOFC. This team will arrive November 17 and will stay several days. We will again make arrangements to stay at Kenner First Church.
The Proposed Projects for this team include: Patching the roof where shingles have blown off from the hurricane, exterior landscaping and cleaning, painting the exterior of the building, and replacing the kitchen on the second floor. We will also continue the planning for the future teams that will come to New Orleans. The plan is to prepare NOFC as quickly as possible so that future teams can be housed on the second floor of the church.
The architect from our local church is working on the draft plans to accommodate the direction agreed upon by the District Advisory Board. These plans include using NOFC as a Welcome Center where multicultural congregations can worship, a Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Center, and a staging area for area recovery efforts. Once these plans are finalized I will send you a copy for your review.
The project is heading in the right direction. People are interested in being involved and are making themselves available for future teams. For this I am thankful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I will keep you informed as we move along the process.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in this ministry. You and the great people of Louisiana are in our prayers. Blessings!

Efforts in Gulfport are proceeding nicely. Brighton Nazarene has adopted two homes in the "red zone" and is completely refurbishing them, having literally stripped them both to the stud walls. To date they have completed the siding, roof, plumbing, electrical, and drywall and anticipate that they may be done as early as Thanksgiving for both homes. Great work Brighton!
Pastor Walt Thompson's home has been re-roofed, drywall repaired, and mostly repainted. Floor coverings still remain to be installed. The Children's Pastor's home has been re-roofed and some drywall repairs are completed. Four church member homes still remain to be re-roofed. Teams wishing to help with these roofs can be scheduled immediately.
The construction of the steel skeleton of the church building is complete. The hurricane banding is underway and the building will be under roof by the end of the month. The RV park on the church site is up and running and can easily house up to 15 team members. A small storage shed has been completed on the church site for tool storage.
I anticipate scheduling of W&W teams can begin with the week of Nov. 26 to Dec. 3. I will be contacting pastors this week about scheduling teams through January of 2006.
Thanks again for your cooperation.
