News From Around Our Great District
Dr. Stephen T. Anthony
District Superintendent

From the District Superintendent

“Iran's shah Mohammed Ali succeeds in a coup d'état with help from
the Cossack Brigade and secret support from the Russian legation. He
shuts down the national assembly and imposes martial law at Teheran;
many liberal leaders are killed.”

We read stories like this everyday and come to expect our nightly news to be filled with Middle East unrest. However, this story was from 1908, the year the Church of the Nazarene was founded, not the lead story in USA Today.

Think about the world in 1908 with me for a minute. There were few automobiles, telephones were a luxury, America for the most part was an agricultural society, women were still fighting for the right to vote, World War One was yet a half a dozen years away and the computer had not even been imagined. Today’s modern society is radically different than the world of 1908 in just about everyway –except one. People still need the message that the Church of the Nazarene was founded to proclaim, the message of Heart Holiness. This message has been known as Full Salvation, Perfect Love, Entire Sanctification and many others. What it is, is the work of God infilling the heart of man with His Holy Spirit. He then cleanses us from sin and empowers us to live a Christ like life.

We stand on the very threshold of the Centennial of the Church of the Nazarene. In 2008 we will celebrate this important date but more importantly the Message. From just a few founders, we now are approaching nearly 2 million members and have spread the Good News to over 150 countries world wide. But the most important element of our Centennial is that the Message of Heart Holiness. It is still and most continue to be our central theme. It is what motivates us to “Make Christlike Disciples in the Nations”

Every church and every Nazarene should mark the dates of October 5, 2008 to join in the worldwide celebration of the birth of the Church of the Nazarene.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Heb 12:14 (KJV)

Stephen T. Anthony
District Superintendent

Flint Eastside Mission Update
Rev. Bill and Barb Burdine
Founders

Flint Eastside Mission LogoEaster 2007 at the ESMApril was an exciting month that included a wonderful Easter celebration! Over 300 meals of ham and all the trimmings were served, and around 650 Easter baskets were given to men, women and children alike! The festivities were capped off by a visit from the Easter bunny for the kids. A very special thanks to all who came out to help with this day!
Serving Love, A cookbook by Barb Burdine
The Mission now has donation boxes that can be placed in businesses to help support us financially! If you are a business owner, and would like to have a box placed at your place of business, please contact Roger Lutze (Development Director) at: relutze@bwmail.net.

Finally, we'd like to announce that after several years of coaxing and many months of collecting, Barb Burdine, has published a cookbook! If you were at District Assembly, you got a sneak peek. . . if you'd like to purchase a cookbook (a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Mission), please contact Barb at the Mission: 810-767-5312. There are literally hundreds of recipes included in this book. Many are Barb's own creations, some are family recipes, and all are her favorites!

God Bless!
