From the District Superintendent
100 years. Most likely anyone reading this was not alive in 1908. 1908 was a long time ago and a lot has happened in those 100 years. But 1908 was the year of a lot of firsts: It was in 1908 that:
- Paper cups were launched by the International Paper Co. of New York
- The Boy Scout movement began.
- The Gideon Bible Company was started
- Cellophane was invented
- Einstein proposed his Quantum theory
- Mothers’ Day was observed for the first time (Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia).
- Robert Peary set sail for the Artic
- The Wright Brothers patented their aircraft
- Lt. Thomas Selfridge crashed a Wright Brothers airplane and became the world’s first airplane fatality.
- Women competed in the Olympics for the first time
- General Motors Corporation was founded
- Ford launched the Model T
- The Church of the Nazarene was founded in Pilot Point, Texas
In those 100 years, the Church of the Nazarene has expanded from just a few congregations with a handful of members in the USA to now over 1.5 million people in over 150 countries around the world and these numbers are increasing dramatically daily. God has done amazing things through His church. Imagine the hundreds of thousands that are already in Heaven because they responded to the message of Full Salvation through the Church of the Nazarene.
On October 5, 2008 Nazarene Churches on the Eastern Michigan District and around the world will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of our beloved church. As we look back I believe that God has our greatest days yet ahead of us. To learn more about the Centennial of the Church, please visit the following web site http://www.nazarene.org/ministries/administration/centennial/display.aspx My prayer is that God may bless the church even more in the future than He has in the past!

News around the EMD:
Dr. Anthony and Marilyn visit Argentina to help dedicate new Nazarene convention center
In January, Marilyn and Dr. Anthony were present at the Dedication of the Bruno Radi Center. The Bruno Radi Center is a Convention Center for the SAM (South America) Region. It is named after Bruno Radi who died suddenly in 2005 of a heart attack while serving as the SAM Regional Director.
Marilyn and Dr. Anthony had their picture taken with Lillie Anna Radi, Bruno’s widow and two of their daughters (photo right). The dedication service was highlighted by a message from General Superintendent, Dr. J.K. Warrick who challenged the young people to Open the Eyes of their Hearts and to see what God had for them. Over 100 responded to a call to commitment of their lives to Christ.

Terry Clees, Jr. Update
We have this update from Rev. Terry Clees about his son for whom many of you have been praying:
Terry Jr. will be coming home on Feb. 7th! He will get a ten day vacation before reporting to a rehab facility in Ypsilanti where he will continue his rehab. There will be a purple heart presentation while he is on "vacation" and we will have a welcome home party for him as well. When I have those dates and places I will let you know. He still needs your prayers as he continues healing and adjusting to the difficult circumstances that surround him. |
