Fowlerville Church Holds First Service

After several months of planning and preparations, the Fowlerville Church of the Nazarene has become a reality. The 16 core group members have been meeting since the summer putting together the ministries of the new church. The first service was held at an elementary school in Fowlerville with 41 people in attendance. Rev. Gary and Joy Griffin previously served as associates at the Brighton Church . The Brighton Church , under the leadership of Rev. Ben Walls, and the Howell Church , under the leadership of Rev. Jon Jaymes, have served as sponsoring churches for the new congregation.

Idea Corner

Relevant to the Community - Rev. Bob Moulding at New Covenant, recently discovered a family in his community experienced a great loss as a result of a fire that may have been diverted had their smoke alarms had good batteries. The New Covenant Church conducted a 9-volt battery giveaway on the Sunday the time changed. This expression of concern to the community has helped the community see there are a church and a pastor who care about families and is willing to meet practical needs.

Church Planter Gathering in January

The church planters of the district will be meeting at the district office on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:00 AM. This meeting, held in January every year, has proven to be a very valuable time for our new church pastors because of the administrative topics covered. These topics help prepare our pastors for the tax season. This is also a very valuable time for our church planters to share ideas and support one another. If you are unable to attend, please notify me as soon as possible. Great Start for Northern Michigan Rev. John Carr (from Bethel Church) has gotten a great start in Petoskey with a core group of 28 and the first gathering had over 70 people in attendance. Also, Rev. Damon Carpenter (from the East Flint Church ) held the first gathering on the west side of Traverse City with nearly 80 people in attendance. The Northern Michigan District is now making plans to launch a new ministry in Marquette .

It was Thanksgiving with all the trimmings for about 170 people on Flint's east side. There were 141 dinners served, 28 carry out meals packaged and too many "seconds" to count that day, leaving everyone filled and satisfied. Thank you to the more than 60 area volunteers who came to serve Thanksgiving Dinner at the Mission. Some came from as far away as Howell and Webberville.

Brighton , Deer Park , East Flint , Flint Central, Lake Louise , Lapeer and Richfield. Other friends serving there came from City of Hope, Joy Baptist and New Community Church.

Our new online capabilities come in especially handy this year as we are offering Alternative Christmas Gifts 2004 for the first time and this too can be done totally online. If you're at a loss about what to buy some of the people on your list... search no more! You can purchase pounds of food, Christmas gifts, meat or make a donation as a gift for someone. Once your purchase is logged, we send you a gift card so you can let them know about it. You can also download and print out an order form and mail it (and your check) in to the address on the form. Nazarene Churches will also be receiving some order forms.

Please continue to keep the Eastside Mission in your year-end giving plans. Donations can be sent to the Flint Eastside Mission, 1829 Delaware Avenue, Flint, MI 48506 or they can be done online directly from the website. If you have questions about this, please connect with Rev. Margie Bryce at mebryce@flinteastsidemission.org.

Our mailing list continues to grow as we increase our Friends and Family group. If you are already part of that group, expect a Christmas mailing sometime next week or so. If not, sign up at flinteastsidemission.org.

Missions Update

Compassionate Ministries 2004 Conference -by Reta

October 8-10, 2004 around 130 people from around the globe gathered in Indianapolis, Indiana to praise God for the powerful difference each portion of Compassionate Ministries is making around the world. We heard the talented voices of the Morgan sisters bring us in close harmony with God's very presence. We heard stories from Fletcher Tink that put us in tears about God's moving around the world in His great love for His people. Special speaker Amy Andersen brought challenge and change to our former way of thinking about compassion. We received good information from our workshops and good fellowship during our lunch break. We were thanked for our participation on our districts in compassionate ministries with our giving of time and in the variety of ways we show love to the world around us.

Sunday morning we were thrilled with the sounds of a steel drums band from Trinidad. Then Oliver Phillips brought a unique view about compassion to challenge us even more. It was time well spent. Thanks Eastern Michigan District for sending me.

Pray:
  • God's blessing upon this effort to equip our Pastors

Plan: $7 per person using average Sunday morning attendance

A Missions Moment from Fenton Church

Fenton Church of the Nazarene housed voting booths on election day, November 12. NMI President Karen Bryne realized people standing in line would be hungry. Baked goods, coffee and juice were available for a small donation. The money went to missions. Lesson: When opportunity knocks....answer it!
