Christmas Greetings from the District Superintendent:

Names like Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, al Qaeda, and Taliban all strike miserable fear in our hearts. They have become household words and synonymous with impending war in the Middle East. The talk of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons all speak of possible holocaust that could strike at any moment.

One name though , that dispels this fear and all other fear is the name of  Jesus. His birth, that happened in an obscure middle eastern village 2000 years ago, still gives the world  hope today.  The words of the angelic messengers the night of His birth are still our reason for hope. They told the shepherds then and the world today:"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"  Luke 2:14 (NKJV)

Your district Ministry Team want to wish you and your family the peace that can come only by knowing Christ Jesus. We wish you a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Ellington's New Building

Ellington Dedicates New Facility

Sunday, December 1st - Marilyn and Dr. Anthony were at Ellington Church for the dedication of their new building. This is a true miracle story. The second oldest church on the Eastern Michigan District was still in their original building on M-81. Under the leadership of pastor Rev. Ron Comfort, they were able to build this 7500 sq ft facility on 8 acres of land with an indebtedness of only $32,000. The majority of the labor was done by volunteers from Ellington and other churches. Over 160 people attended the afternoon dedication service. Just about every pastor from the Thumb Zone attended. Flint Eastside Mission Needs Your Help to Make this Christmas Merry!

From Pastor Bill and Barb Burdine: Our next event will be our Christmas Outreach into the community. To be held on Saturday December 21st from 11am until 1pm. We will be serving a full course dinner and distributing gifts to the men, women and children. Last year we served over 300 meals, distributed 1300 gifts and gave away 200 turkeys. With the economy the way it is we are expecting even more this year. If you can help in any way please contact us. You can keep up with the Eastside Mission on the District Web site at esmission/ or at their own Web site, http://www.flinteastsidemission.org/! Flushing Congregation

Flushing Church Building Project Approved

Flushing Church, under the leadership of Rev. Darrel Harvey, has received approval from the District Board of Church Properties and the District Advisory Board to begin construction on their first unit. They purchased 20 acres of land last year on the west side of Flushing. They will build a gym that will also be used as their sanctuary. The congregation of Flushing church currently meets at Flushing Middle School pictured at left.

Quiz Update from Scott Meikle

Well here we are in December already and the EMD quizzing program is really rolling. It has been a great year so far with several churches: Lake Community, Detroit Grace, Caro, and Adrian joining for the first time. We have been averaging 30+ teams from over 20 churches in our district. This means that over 100 teens from our district are participating in these meets ever month, pushing each other to learn more. The level of fellowship and study have both been exceptional. The District All Star team recently went to St. Louis to compete in a round robin against 40 other district all star teams from all over the country. For possibly the first time ever the EMD team won the tournament lead by Ryan Prescott and Carrie McFadden, both from East Flint, who took 2nd and 15th respectively as individuals! The bar continues to be raised. Equally impressive has been the large number of new comers who are really having an impact at the district meets. Regardless of placement all of our teens are winners in Christ. The EMD churches have ever right to be proud of the effort these teens and their coaches are putting out. We have a few quiz meets left so feel free to catch us at Richfield on Jan. 11th, DFC on Feb. 15th, or Warren Woods March 14-15 for the district wrap up!
